See Arizona's Only Black History Museum

The African American Museum of Southern Arizona opened in January 2023 inside the University of Arizona Student Union, and it is the only Black history museum in the state. Its exhibits cover stories like the Buffalo Soldiers, the 1889 Wham Paymaster Robbery and Wildcats basketball coach Fred Snowden. Admission is free, and guided tours are available by appointment. The space is small, but it is packed with local history most Tucsonans never learned in school.
