About

Finger Rock Trail leaves from the Richard McKee Finger Rock Trailhead on North Alvernon Way and climbs into the Santa Catalinas toward Mount Kimball. The first mile runs through a saguaro forest, with views of the canyon cliffs, the Finger Rock formation and Tucson. Parking is free and no pass is needed, but the 35-space lot fills quickly on weekends and holidays. Dogs aren't allowed on the trails. Finger Rock Spring, about a mile in, has seasonal water and is a good place to turn back on an easier day. Past the spring the climb gets serious, gaining about 2,000 feet in two miles on the way to Mount Kimball at mile 5.
