About

Fort Lowell Park sits on the site of a U.S. Army post that operated from 1873 to 1891. The adobe remains of the old post hospital still stand under a protective roof, and the park and its ruins are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Walking the grounds and reading the historical markers is free, and the park also has a large pond, ball fields and pickleball courts. The Fort Lowell Museum, run by the Tucson Presidio Trust, charges $5 for adults and is open Thursday through Saturday. Tall shade trees make it an easy place for a picnic or a slow walk. The fort's Cottonwood Lane once ran in front of the officers' houses.
