About

Encanto Park is a 222-acre city park in central Phoenix, built by WPA crews between 1935 and 1938. About 100 acres, including the golf course and lagoons, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Encanto-Palmcroft Historic District. Getting in is free, and you can walk the paths along the lagoons and bridges, fish with a state license, or grab one of the two first-come ramadas for a picnic. Boat rentals, the swimming pool, the two golf courses and the privately run Enchanted Island amusement park all cost extra. The historic clubhouse and boathouse still stand by the water. Ducks on the lagoon and the midtown skyline behind them make it an easy place to spend a slow afternoon.
