Piestewa Peak rises to 2,608 feet in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. The Summit Trail is the only route to the top, about 1.2 miles round trip with roughly 1,200 feet of elevation gain. It costs nothing to hike, and the trailhead has water and restrooms. Dogs are not allowed on the Summit Trail at any time of year. The peak was renamed in 2003 for Lori Ann Piestewa. The climb is rated extremely strenuous, and it pays off with city views from the summit.
