About

The Phoenix Sonoran Preserve covers more than 9,600 acres of desert in north Phoenix, with 36 miles of trails across three trailheads. Apache Wash Trailhead on Sonoran Desert Drive has plenty of parking for cars and horse trailers, plus vault toilets. Hiking is free, but there is no drinking water at the trailhead, so bring your own. Most trails from here are rated easy, including the 5.6-mile Apache Wash Loop and the nearly flat Skip Rimsza Paseo. For a short climb, the Apache Vista Trail gains 153 feet in half a mile. The mix of flat paseos and gentle loops makes this a good fit for beginners and families.
