Goldfield Ghost Town is a rebuilt 1890s gold mining town at the foot of the Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction. In its boom years it had three saloons, a boarding house and a general store, until the ore vein faulted and the town faded. Walking Main Street and browsing the shops costs nothing, and from November through April the Goldfield Gunfighters put on weekend shootouts you can watch from the boardwalk. The narrow gauge train, mine tour, Mystery Shack, museum and other attractions are paid, with most adult tickets running about $9 to $15. Merchants are open 10am to 5pm every day, and the saloon and coffee shop keep their own hours. It's an easy half-day outing from the East Valley, with mountain views in every direction.
