About

Tubac began in 1752 as a Spanish presidio, the first Spanish colonial garrison in what is now Arizona, and grew into an artists' colony between the 1930s and 1960s. Today it's a small village about 45 minutes south of Tucson, filled with galleries, potters, jewelers, home decor boutiques and gift shops. Walking the village and browsing the shops is free. The main paid stop is Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, which charges $10 for adults and $3 for kids 7 to 13, though its visitor center has no fee. Inside the park you'll find the presidio ruins and a museum that holds the state's first printing press. Tubac Center of the Arts, also free to enter, is right in the village if you want to add a gallery stop.
