Teams and solo riders take on a full day and night of mountain biking across the Sonoran Desert, racing a lap course non-stop for 24 hours straight. Categories range from serious competitors to costumed theme camps. Riders trade laps in relay fashion while their teams set up elaborate campsites, bonfires, and generator-powered lights that turn the desert into a temporary tent city after dark. Headlamps bob across the course through the night. The endurance and the spectacle both draw a crowd, and finishing even a handful of laps becomes a personal milestone for many riders. It's as much a desert campout with friends as it is a race.
