The Boston Marathon has been run every Patriots' Day since 1897, making it the oldest annual marathon in the world. The 26.2-mile course runs from Hopkinton through Wellesley and Newton into Boston, finishing on Boylston Street in Copley Square. Spectating is free anywhere along the course — the Wellesley Scream Tunnel and Newton Hills are favorite spots. The finish line on Boylston is the loudest and most emotional stretch. If you want to run, qualifying times are required; charity entries are available for a fundraising commitment.
