The Northern Taurids are a slow, long-lasting shower active from October into December. While hourly rates are modest (5–10/hr), this shower is famous for its spectacular bright fireballs that can light up the entire sky. Produced by debris from comet 2P/Encke, they overlap with the Southern Taurids. Where to Look: Radiate from the constellation Taurus the Bull — look for the Pleiades star cluster and the V-shaped Hyades cluster to orient yourself. Taurus rises in the evening and is well-placed all night in November. Scan the entire sky rather than staring at the radiant — fireballs can appear anywhere. Fun Facts: The Taurids (Northern and Southern combined) are linked to a stream of debris from comet Encke and possibly a breakup of a much larger comet thousands of years ago. The Northern Taurids reach peak activity during a NEW MOON in 2026 — perfect fireball-hunting conditions. Because the shower is active so long, patient observers may spot fireballs on almost any October or November night. Moon Conditions: 🌑 Near new moon — excellent conditions ⭐
